Forsyth County Considers Changes to Outdoor Lighting

On Thursday, July 17 at 5 p.m. the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold what appears to be the last in a series of public hearings to consider changes to its outdoor lighting requirements and limitations.  Proposed changes increase the minimum height of outdoor lighting in Commercial and Industrial zoned districts to 35 feet from 25 feet, except for where it borders or contains residential properties or is a large scale development (40,000 to 150,000 square feet), and in Residential and Agricultural zoned districts to 25 feet from 15 feet. The proposed changes also define specifically required “cut-off” features or the amount of horizontal light that emits from outdoor lighting.
UPDATE:  The proposed changes were approved.
