Clayton County Unveils New Zoning Ordinance & Six New Overlay Districts

Clayton County has unveiled a new zoning ordinance that has been three years in the works and includes six new overlay districts, mandates larger front yard setbacks, creates a Medical Mixed-Use District (MMX) as a new zoning category allowing a “campus environment” for medical centers, hospitals and wellness facilities, and establishes a “tree bank” imposing stricter penalties for tree replacement and provides new incentives for tree retention.

The new zoning ordinance, tree protection ordinance, and the subdivison ordinance were approved in May and went into effect July 24, 2008.
